Hi! My name is Jay Salikin and I am with Saskatoon Public Schools. I am in my first year as Educational Consultant for Information Systems.
I did a Master's Degree in Communication Technology under Rick Schwier a few years ago, and finished my Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at the same time. I have been teaching for 12 years, and this is my first full year out of the classroom.
Under Rick's guidance, I have been very experimental with being "out there" and have accounts with many social networking sites. I am a bit of a lurker, and tend not to be the most vocal, unless I feel that I have something to offer that is not being said. I am very open minded and am open to ideas and changes to my own thinking, and consider empathy to be one of my strengths.
I am married (to Lenore) with two kids (Jesse - 21 and Samantha - 10), and play and listen to music any chance I get. My two prized possessions are my 1977 Gibson Les Paul Custom, and my iPhone! I love my Mac, but am not a fanatic, and can see where a Windows machine is good enough for most things. I am an insulin dependent diabetic and exercise religiously and watch what I eat (most of the time - but again, am not a fanatic).
I can be found on pretty much everything (with a few early exceptions) as jaysalikin.
I look forward to the opportunity to work with this group.
I built this guitar during my lunch hours while working at a high school (and I've lost some weight since...time for a new picture).
